The Regional Cancer Center

The Importance of Being Partners

Cancer is a complex disease. Just as no two people are the same, no two cancers are the same. Each case requires a unique approach to treatment - one that brings the patient, his or her physicians and the entire team of health care professionals together in partnership.

Access to Advanced Care
The expertise of the Center's physician group is extended through contact with fellow oncologists all over the world.

Since knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of cancer is continually growing, no one physician can know the latest and most optimal therapies for every type of cancer. That's why our oncologists are in constant contact with one another and with other cancer care experts across the country and around the world. Through these partnerships, they exchange findings, share research and learn about new treatment approaches to bring the best in cancer care to residents of our region.

The vast majority of cancer diagnostic and treatment modalities being offered today are available at The Regional Cancer Center. For the few types of treatments not provided, our physicians work with specialists at some of the foremost cancer care facilities in the country. These are doctors our physicians know and trust to contribute to the care of their patients.

Clinical Research

HaynesThrough established links with cancer care resources, many of the newest research developments and treatment therapies that were once available only to patients in certain areas of the country are now available at the Center. For example, our membership in the National Cancer Institute gives us access to almost 100 different protocols dealing with cancer care, quality of life issues and the biology of cancer.

With the NCI's clinical research program, our patients participate in what are known as clinical trials from within their own communities. In doing so, patients have access to the latest developments in cancer treatment and also contribute to the growing base of knowledge on the use of certain drug and radiation therapies for specific cancers.

The Regional Cancer Center also participates in clinical research in association with numerous drug manufacturers and research organizations such as the (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project) NSABP. In addition, we maintain a certified Regional Tumor Registry, through which we track the treatment and outcomes of cancers for study by health care and research professionals. In this way, the Center and its patients are contributing to the ultimate fight against cancer.
