Meet Dr. Nancy E. Davidson

Nancy E. Davidson, MD
Dr. Nancy E. Davidson, nationally renowned authority on breast cancer and Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) and UPMC Cancer Centers, visited Erie and The RCC for the first time on May 10.
The power of academic medical centers joining forces with community hospitals is quickly becoming a trend in cancer care – and it’s a trend RCC, UPMC Cancer Centers, and Hamot and Saint Vincent hospitals recognized early. As the lead physician of our affiliation partner and NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, Dr. Davidson’s visit creates a forum for exchanging thoughts, perspectives, and priorities for the future of cancer care at RCC including ideas about ongoing clinical opportunities of the affiliation.
One of the benefits of the RCC’s association with UPCI and UPMC Cancer centers is access to a wide variety of clinical trials. Research is one of the most effective tools in developing new and improved cancer treatment protocols. Many of the most effective cancer treatments available today, from the latest surgical techniques to radiation therapies to the wide variety of drug therapies, have evolved from work begun in research laboratories. Through relationships with community cancer centers like RCC, UPMC and UPCI have an opportunity to bring leading edge research trials to the community setting, providing local patients with novel treatment options close to home.
