Regional Cancer Center has been bringing expert cancer care close to home for patients in the northwestern Pennsylvania region since 1987 and is affiliated with UPMC Cancer Centers, one of the largest integrated community networks of cancer physicians and health care specialists in the country. Regional Cancer Center’s working relationship with UPMC Cancer Centers facilitates an exchange of information to integrate our community cancer center with the resources of one of the top academic programs in the country, collaborating to bring comprehensive and state-of-the-art treatment innovations and services to our patients.

Application Programmer/Analyst

Position Description: This position is responsible for project management, analysis, design, coding, communication, implementation, maintenance and support of The Regional Cancer Center’s business and clinical applications.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education: The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered as substitution for the education requirement, at The Regional Cancer Center’s discretion.

Job Knowledge: Position requires a minimum of 2 to 3 years of work related experience implementing and maintaining information systems, preferably in a healthcare setting. Experience with SQL databases, Crystal reporting tools, and object-oriented programming languages is required. Experience with Pervasive SQL databases, HL7 interface technologies, project management, and an electronic medical record is desirable. Working knowledge of local area networks and computer operating systems is required. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand, analyze and resolve problems while demonstrating effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to meet deadlines, respond to changing requirements and work with limited supervision.

Medical Assistant - Full Time

Position Description: As a member of the Physician Care Team, performs selected patient care duties in the care of the oncology patient under the direction of a licensed professional nurse or a licensed physician which do not require the specialized skill, judgment and knowledge required in professional nursing. Pull charts and insures all required information is available to insure efficient and effective use of time. Assist nurses as required. Prepare and re-stock supplies for treatment rooms.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant certification or degree, or BS degree from an accredited college/university in a medically focused program. A minimum of two years prior experience working in a healthcare facility, preferably a doctor’s office or clinic.

Job Knowledge: Must have good interpersonal skills to interface with patient’s family members and staff members. Must be proficient in taking vital signs and gathering other pertinent medical data from patients. Requires good telephone skills as well as ability to enter data properly in the computer system for variety of purposes.

Medical Oncology Practice RN – Full Time

Position Description: The Medical Oncology Practice Nurse has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The Medical Oncology Practice Nurse works with the Physician to apply competent clinical knowledge and skills to achieve quality care outcomes for the medical oncology patients and, provides education and emotional support to patients/family; collaborates with RCC staff members and other health care providers to facilitate comprehensive health care services.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and possess current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. At least 6 years of acute care or 3 years of oncology experience. At least 1 of those years of experience must include employment as an RN at RCC. Oncology certification mandatory or obtained within 2 years of RCC employment.

Job Knowledge: A caring, empathetic, understanding personality. Ability to work and interface with all types of people. Excellent organizational skills; excellent phlebotomy and IV therapy skills including central lines, and excellent phone skills. Knowledge of current oncological practices and chemotherapy drugs is required.

Summer Internships

Summer Intern Qualifications: Students must have completed one year of advanced education in a relevant field of study. Preference is given to candidates that participate in Pennsylvania's State Work Study Program. Eligibility for this can be determined at www.PHEAA.org.

Summer Intern - HIM Department

25 hours per week, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm Monday – Friday

HIM Intern will scan paper records and electronically file to the patient chart, electronically file records received to the patient chart. Also responsible for “releasing” RCC provider’s dictation documents electronically to outside physicians, preparing paper charts to be returned to offsite storage and assisting HIM Clerks process tasks on their work list; sending requests to obtain records from outside provider’s offices.

Summer Intern - Imaging Department

37.5 hours per week, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday-Friday

Job Responsibilities for the Diagnostic Imaging Assistant include escorting patients to and from Radiology, Cat Scan and PET/CT, assisting Technologist during Cat Scan and PET/CT exams, importing and exporting Imaging Studies from PACS system, providing patients with pre and post procedural instruction, and completing patient’s Cat Scan assessment in MOSAIQ.

Summer Switchboard Intern - Registration and Scheduling Department

40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Switchboard intern will answer switchboard phone, direct calls, answer general questions and appropriately direct calls exhibiting exceptional phone etiquette and customer service skills.

Summer Intern - Cancer Registry Department

40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Tumor Registry Intern will be responsible for obtaining current follow-up information for all appropriate cases in the cancer registry database by reviewing physician office and hospital encounters, local and regional obituaries, and mailing follow up letters to the patient’s managing physician. This individual will also assist the department with light clerical duties such as typing, answering phones, and reviewing incoming mail and faxes. Prior training or experience in Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy & Physiology preferred.

Summer Intern - Medical and Radiation Oncology Departments

40 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Summer Intern will work as Medical Assistant, helping prepare patients for appointments by gathering information, taking vital signs, pulling records from the electronic medical record system, and assisting nurses as needed.
