About
the Pharmacy
The Regional Cancer Center
Pharmacy dispenses medications frequently prescribed by the physicians
at the Center as well as nutritional supplements.
Chemotherapy drugs administered
during an office visit are prepared and dispensed by the registered pharmacist.
These drugs are billed directly to insurance carriers whenever possible.
The on-site pharmacy enables
patients to obtain some of their prescriptions while at the Center receiving
treatment or seeing the doctor, thus minimizing extra trips to outside
pharmacies to purchase required medication. A computerized patient profile
system assists the pharmacist in detecting possible duplication or interaction
of medications.
The pharmacist and the physicians
work together to coordinate the most appropriate medications. The pharmacist
is available to discuss with the patient and family any aspect of drug
therapy including how a medication works, possible side effects and drug
interactions.
The pharmacy is located just inside the east entrance of the building and
near the chemotherapy waiting area.
The pharmacy also carries over-the-counter
medications commonly used by our patients. You may want to stop by and
see the selection prior to purchasing medications outside the Center.
The pharmacy also sells nutritional supplements such as Ensure and Ensure
Plus. These formulas are sold at a reduced cost to our patients.
Most medications for home use
cannot be billed to your medical insurance. However, The Regional Cancer
Center pharmacy does participate in a number of prescription plans including
PACE, PA Medical Assistance, PAID, Caremark, PCS, NPA and EMC.
